Engagement Photos with Hannah & Max: Las Colinas Romance Meets Holiday Magic
You don’t have to fly to Italy to feel like you’re there — just ask Hannah (they/them) and Max (he/him). For their engagement session, we wandered through the Mandalay Canals of Las Colinas, a hidden gem in the DFW area that somehow makes you feel like you’ve been whisked off to Europe.
It was my first time bringing full lighting equipment to an outdoor shoot, and while it came with its challenges, the payoff was worth it. Hannah’s emerald green engagement ring caught the light in the most beautiful way, and their connection with Max shone even brighter.
At one point, I asked Max to whisper something into Hannah’s ear for a sweet candid moment. Just to get a laugh, I told him to whisper his favorite fast food order — and he committed. For the rest of the shoot, every time he got the chance, Max whispered a new fast food order to Hannah. It became our running joke and kept everyone smiling between takes.
Later that evening, we drove to the Dallas Arboretum for their magical holiday light display. Shooting at night — especially surrounded by crowds and twinkling lights — tested my skills in the best way. It was chaotic, cold, and honestly our feet were dying, but we were all troopers and made it work.
Their love stayed the center focus no matter how many toddlers sprinted past or how dim the lighting got. And those warm glances under glowing lights? Absolutely worth it.
From its charming canals to pedestrian bridges and romantic walkways, the Mandalay Canal Walk is one of the most picturesque spots in DFW. Add in a golden sunset or some moody lighting, and it's basically a movie set waiting for you.
