Love on Tap: Engagement Session at Two Iconic Denton Bars
Some sessions are beautifully planned. Others feel like a full-circle moment. Evan (he/him) and Sophia’s (she/her) was both.
I met them years ago, long before they were a couple—back when we all worked together at Alamo Drafthouse in Denton, Texas. Before the flirting, before the inside jokes, before they ever imagined they'd end up walking down the aisle together. To witness their story unfold from coworkers to best friends to partners for life? That’s been its own kind of magic.
So when it came time for their engagement session, we all knew exactly where we needed to go: Downton Denton, Texas.
This city has been a personal landmark in their relationship—a backdrop for their best date nights, their favorite drinks, and plenty of shared memories with friends. We didn’t need a glamorous venue or complicated itinerary. Just a couple of meaningful locations, a great playlist, and their unbeatable chemistry.
We started at Miss Angeline’s, where the vibe is vintage glam with a twist. Think Old Hollywood meets cozy cocktail lounge. We dressed up the moment with a bottle of champagne and had them pose dramatically at the bar—laughing, twirling, and serving the kind of effortless elegance you can’t fake. The velvet seating, the soft chatter in the background, the glint of a champagne flute—every detail worked like a charm.
Next, we wandered over to Harvest House, a staple in their love story. It’s where they’ve shared drinks under the stars, caught live music, and made the kind of casual memories that end up meaning the most. Photographing them there felt less like a session and more like tagging along on a date. They were in their element—laughing and relaxing into every frame.
But the most uniquely Evan-and-Sophia moment? That came courtesy of something I’ve never done before: a custom newspaper, entirely about their relationship.
I gathered up little pieces of their story—how they met at work, their shared love of fostering cats, their unforgettable hiking proposal—and ran them through AI to generate an over-the-top article. And I do mean over the top. It came out wild, inaccurate, and completely hilarious… so we printed it anyway.
They posed with the newspaper, flipped through the pages, and later told me they took turns reading it aloud to each other, cracking up the whole time. That’s exactly the kind of experience I love building—something personal, a little silly, and unforgettable.
And as if that wasn’t meaningful enough, they’re planning to display their portraits at their wedding. I nearly melted when they told me that. To know that the images we created will line the halls as they walk into the next chapter of their lives? That’s the kind of legacy that makes this job so rewarding.
To Evan and Sophia—thank you for trusting me with your story, your laughter, and your genuine, joyful selves. I cannot wait to see your portraits at the wedding and cheer you on as you step into married life. Wishing you the easiest planning process and a celebration as rich as the life you're building together.
